Berning, JD, LLM, is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Washington, DC. The firm maintains professional relationships with a variety of large and specialty legal firms to ensure ongoing significant depth in a wide variety of legal areas impacting doctors and their practices. If services are requested in jurisdictions other than the foregoing, local health, business or tax counsel are engaged on behalf of the client or the client may directly engage local counsel. The firm specializes in providing legal services to health care professionals with an emphasis on general dentists and dental specialists.

  • Primary Legal Services By Local Counsel. Berning Health law will act to guide and review the work product of a doctor's existent or more recently engaged local counsel. We find that the oversight expedites getting the work product prepared and offers substantial cost savings. Further, the benefit of establishing or maintaining a local legal relationship that continues after the initial services are provided can prove invaluable to the orderly oversight of a doctor's personal and professional affairs. Note: we often assist to locate and qualify for doctors local or specialty law firms and attorneys.

Randall K. Berning, JD, LL.M

Before entering private practice, Randy served as an Illinois Assistant Attorney General. In private practice he has concentrated his practice on legal, financial and practice management issues affecting dentists and health care providers. He is experienced in business and transactional matters, mergers, acquisitions, contract negotiations, planning for practice transition, succession and expansion. Randy received his Master of Laws in Health Law (LL.M.) from Loyola University of Chicago, School of Law in 1989. He was a Trustee Advisor for the America's Fund for Dental Health (1994-1995), served as a member of the National Advisory Council for Nursing Research, Department of Health and Human Services, NIH (1994-1998) and served as Adjunct Professor of Dental Jurisprudence and Director of Practice Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry from 1993-2000. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and a Clinical Instructor at the University of California-San Francisco, School of Dentistry. He speaks frequently for national and specialty organizations and he co-presented the ADA national seminar series topic "Do's and Don'ts of Associateships and Practice Valuation" (1987-1992) and "Dental Practice Financing and Debt Management" (1989-1992). He is the coauthor of two ADA publications Associateships: A Guide for Owners and Prospective Associates (1988, 92, 97 & 2001) and Valuing a Practice: A Guide for Dentists (1989, 92, 97 & 2001).
